19/08/17: Sadly to my great loss I have been off the WMCEG scene since (it seems) the last 2 centuries, though with this proposed reunion coming up I find the memories come flooding back of the amazing times and adventures we shared together. I’m not sure who is instigating the latest exhumation of a lost generation of caving stiffs but I’m very pleased this event is happening and will do my best to come and haunt the proceedings. It appears organisation is moving at quite a pace and I thank those doing the spade work. Just returned home from Snowdon so I’ll do my best to catch up after nursing my knees and other bits back to life. If Pam and I can help in any way then let us know.
Pam hopes to attend but will be unable to participate in the planned walk due to a few health prob’s but I should be good to hobbles a few miles. We’ve no accommodation at the time of writing so will make our own arrangements if no suggestions are forthcoming, -any campsites close by?
Meanwhile, I will liaise with Rob who kindly let us in on the plot but would love to hear from the rest of you guys.
The contrast between the rich and the poor, the poor had to make do with a hostel.
It was an amazing weekend of great joy for all attendee’s I’m sure. Thanks to all who did the spade work in organisation.
[Several of the group stayed at Ravenstor Youth Hostel (Youth???)]
[Jed is writing just after the reunion] 2/09/17: Unbeknown to you all, Pam and I experienced the most bizarre and frightening last night in our tent on Sunday. At around 3.00am I awoke with excruciating pains in my chest, the type of which I’d never known before and by 4.00am I was hysterical with dread and couldn’t breathe so I woke Pam and told her something was horribly wrong and to unzip the tent for me to get some air. By this time the pain was getting worse and I was delirious with panic and told Pam I needed someone pretty quickly at which she immediately rang 999. This duly done, a paramedic turned up about 12 minutes later, dragged me out of the tent and proceeded to work on me. Things are very sketchy in my mind but shortly afterwards an ambulance turned up and carted me off to Sheffield Hospital where I spent 13 hours pumped full of morphine and underwent ECG’s throughout the day plus umpteen blood extractions and monitoring. I rallied about 5.00pm on Monday and was informed it wasn’t a heart seizure or the like and after a final Xray they decided to let me go. The consultant in charge was mystified as to my plight though there was a tiny flicker of something on the electrocardiograph. Anyway I’ll not bore you with further details, just to say what a huge relief it was to be given a more-or-less clean bill of health. Pam and I now await the report from my GP back in Worcester.
Footnote,- Pam was desperate to inform those of you at Ravenstor as to what was happening but I pleaded with her not to alarm anyone. I’m so pleased we didn’t in view of the positive outcome.
To more sobering matters. It was a magnificent weekend’s reunion and thanks to all of you for making it so memorable, -when can we do it again?
